Learning in the natural world
Once every two weeks, the natural world becomes an inspiring extension of the classroom through child-led, sensory learning in woodland and beach environments.
We believe that regular access to the outdoors is every bit as valuable to a child’s wellbeing and development as learning within a conventional classroom. Malvern College Pre-School Hong Kong is proud to be among the first pre-schools in Hong Kong to offer a Forest-Beach School programme, guided by Level 3 certified practitioners.
Rooted in a philosophy of child-led learning, the programme engages all five senses and takes place in a range of weather conditions whenever it is safe to do so.
A secure and purposeful learning experience
Regular, well-prepared outdoor learning connects children’s natural curiosity with the wider curriculum.
Purposeful learning beyond walls
Nature, the outdoors and open spaces become the children’s temporary classroom, with educational sessions designed around themes linked to the curriculum. Teamwork and interpersonal skills develop through games and group activities such as hide-and-seek or scavenger hunts.
Self-esteem and practical and intellectual skills grow through closely supervised experiences such as shelter building, tool handling or fire lighting where these remain part of current school practice and safety procedures.
A connected learning journey
The programme nurtures both the ways children think and the ways they relate to people, place and the natural world.
Parent takeaway
Through regular outdoor learning, children grow physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually while developing a meaningful and lasting connection with the natural world.
